I purchased this portable seat hoping to use it for v-steaming and it worked perfectly! I placed an infrared electric single burner and a cast iron pot filled with water and herbs beneath it. The seat is high enough off the ground that I didn't feel too close to the steam. It's also relatively comfortable though I did need to adjust after about 20 minutes of sitting in place. If you use it for steaming purposes I'd suggest moving it to where you can rest your back against a wall, as there's no back support. Aside from that it serves me well every week and I'd recommend it. I'm sure it'll work great as a portable commode as well, but I haven't used it for that purpose.
