   I was thinking the shovel part would have been quite a bit larger. I have pretty small hands and as you can see by the picture, my hands sticks out past it. It seems like it will be pretty sturdy if you use common sense. Everything is steel except the collar that tightens and locks the shovel head in place.

I do wish that the shovel was a little bigger, but good portability, also the whistle is stupid and I wish it were replaced with either a stick of magnesium; or replaced with a cap that could be swapped for either a butt spike or just a flat cap.
