Button has sound. It can also be muted. Manual switch-on/off. You can add or subtract numbers and clear them. Press the Plus key to add a number, press the minus minus to reduce a number, and press the plus or minus button for 5 seconds to turn on or off the sound. Press the top blue button for 5 seconds to clear. Press the blue button for 5 seconds to shut down.

It is not waterproof though so I just put it in a small ziploc bag and leave it at the edge of the pool and the bag does well to protect it from splashes and my wet hands.
