   Amazing.... i have two 12" starretts, was hesitant to buy this 6" Irwin but the price was cheap enough, so if it was junk i wouldn't have cried. It works just fine on wood. I don't do much steel work anymore since i'm retired. My starretts are hardened so the bases won't scratch sliding along steel. This irwin would scratch up after a while i'm sure.

   This is so much more useful than the clumsy 12" I've been using. It measures square with all my other squares, and had no burrs or slag to clean up. It's perfect for the table saw blade, as an edge marker, and most everything else I use a combo square for. It now lives on the work bench beside the 6" ruler and awl, the tools I use most. As an amateur woodworker, I don't need machinist precision. Irwin is dependable for good quality and reasonable prices.
