I enjoy watching my 21-month-old sit quietly to focus on lacing the mouse through the holes. It was a proud moment when he picked it right up and instinctively knew what to do with the toy. The edges are smooth, though some of the holes had rough spots, but nothing that posed a safety concern for the kiddo. I only noticed because I could hear the string getting snagged while making passes through the holes. I didn't notice any off-gassing and the weight of the wood and the quality of the string were solid. There are many buying options for this same toy. I chose this one as it was priced competitively and was offered through Prime.

He is a little bit young to understand the mouse eating the cheese concept, but that will not detract from his fun. Some reviewers complained of splinters, and there were one or two on my toy, but I ran the mouse through all the holes one time and that took care of the whole issue, they just fell off and the wood was smooth. Highly recommended to keep a little one entertained in a thoughtful way.
