   I am new to soldering so I bought a $10 iron and had problems getting it to 'wet' from day one. I ordered this one thinking that if I mess up a tip I can replace just the tip. Haven't had to. From day one this iron worked great. The only complaint I have for this iron is that it feels like it gets too hot. I started unplugging it in between component placing. I have since wired a dimmer switch and outlet box to plug the iron into. With the dimmer switch on half way I can leave it plugged in through the whole job. Excellent iron but I have no idea how to use the black stick tool that came with it. I have been using it for through hole components.

   So I had never soldered anything in my life but I bought this anyway. I was repairing my husband's Xbox 360, which needs a part soldered when you swap out the disk drive. I found the tool really intuitive, and the solder that came with it worked perfect - I didn't need to go out and buy a whole bunch of stuff that I didn't need.
   
   I did find that the tip got discolored really quickly but I'm not sure what that meant, it still works fine so must not be anything too big a deal. If you are just looking for a small, effective kit to do solder projects - I do highly recommend this. I love the lights on it, too - made looking at those tiny parts a lot easier.

   I originally bought this to add to my solder station and do 8 or 10 guage wire soldering for my rc car,but turns out it does more than expected(just becarefull of the temps your applying to your work because this thing will melt your smaller jobs like butter) the lights are also very helpfull when your work area is a little dark .give it 5 minutes to get hot and keep it clean with a sponge and tip cleaner and the tip wil work for a good amount of time.I do alot of work with this iron so the tip had to be filed down a little bit because of the intense heat it makes(so cleaning the tip and applying solder on both sides of it is a must if you intend on having any life at all with the tips it comes with)all in all the best soldering iron I've ever owned bar none.

   I bought this to use on my jewelry and so far it works great. I use some silver solder to attach wires to pieces and attach pieces to each other. I'm still learning how to solder so I'll update this when I know more, but a friend recommended this Weller soldering iron and it works great for my needs. I like that it has flat edges around the middle so you can set it down and not worry about the tip touching your surface or the iron rolling away. It's easy to hold on to and the extra tips are a big plus. The only thing is I wish the cord were just a bit longer, but I can get an extension cord to fix that. Overall, very happy with this.

   As I expected this is a well made Weller product and performed as was described. This one gets really Hot as is said in some of the reviews, probably too hot for what I need actually. I should have gotten the next one down from it and it would have been fine. Its not very often that need to use it, so I'm pretty sure it will be the last one I ever need. The lights work great for lighting up the work, a nice feature for low light situations. I would defiantly recommend this and any of the other Weller products like it. *****

   I purchased this soldering iron because I'm a beginner and it was cheap. The circuit board on a Toyota Corolla clock needed to be repaired, and the cost of this iron was less than the cost of a replacement clock. After learning on this soldering iron, I may upgrade, but for now this perfectly suits my needs.
   
   I did notice that after one use, the long metal piece and the tip both changed color. They both started out shiny silver, and now they are brownish/purplish. I have no clue whether this is typical of other soldering irons, or if it will impact performance in any way.

   I had a 30 watt soldering iron first which usually frustrated me to no end, always too cold or the tip would just fall off when using, then I bought this model, I am so glad I did, its made better, holds the tip securely, is always the right temperature to use and has built in lights to see what you are doing, I like it as much to buy a second one for backup, for when this one has lived its lifespan, which I hope is a long way down the road

   Having recently started a hobby that requires quality soldering points, I wanted a more powerful soldering iron with the option to change tips. Weller seems to be a favorite brand and it seems well-made. Most of my hobby forums recommend a minimum of 40 watts of solding power and this iron fits the bill perfectly. The three LED lights on the front are a very nice feature since having excellent lighting conditions is important when solding. The ergonomics are sound and it feels good in the hand with a nice grippy texture on the handle. The smaller tip seemed to have a coating on it that flaked off when I first heated it but I've sanded it since then and it seems fine.
