It's excellent for carrying legal-sized files, books, notepads, laptop, etc. It is softening up well, although it was pretty soft to begin with, but still has enough structure to stand up straight when filled. I carry a lot of files at a time and this works great. It smelled awesome from the get-go. There were no plastic remains on any of the metal work as others have found.
