   I bought this for my 6 year old daughter and she spent hours exploring the sewing machine. It is very very safe for my little one and she was able to handle it alone with no help. It takes 4 AA batteries and has a little lighting for the needle area. The on/off button is easy to use for kids. The needles are securely enclosed within a transparent covering which makes it safer for little kids. The products comes with few pre-cut projects, a bag of stuffing and a playbook.

But I think any felt fabric will work with this machine. Additional felt kits by this brand "Cool Maker" can also be purchased. This is rated for 6+ but probably best-suited for 6 to 9-year-olds. Such a fun and adorable little sewing machine that works almost like magic!

It uses a button to turn on the machine and then another button to activate the "sewing" mechanism. It runs off of AA batteries (not included). It completely protects the needle area so that only two thin layers of felt can enter the needle area.
