Works very well for a very water-defensive 9-year-old with a somewhat large head for a 9-year-old. This has been the key to doing stand-up showers for hair washing.
You do have to place it an an angle, as they show in the diagram. And you have to make sure it is pressed against the forehead, so there are no gaps. Our child holds it on, rather than having us hold it. Make sure they are not tipping their head too far forward, but it doesn't have to be tilted backward either, just upright is enough. Then we can use either the hand shower spray (carefully aimed), or a cup to pour water over the head. This device drains all the water off behind the ears, which is crucial for our young one, who hates to get any water on the face or in the ears.
The body of the unit is made of semi-flexible plastic, allowing it to be opened to position it on the head. Inside the lip of the unit a V-shaped rubber "gasket" is attached firmly to the unit all around the C-shape, allowing small gaps to be filled to make a seal on the head.
My child's head is 20.5" circumference, and somewhat square-ish. I don't think this unit would be small enough for a baby, but it would probably work for a preschooler. I guess for a toddler it would depend on the size of the head. At the widest part of the unit, the semi-rigid part measures 5 5/8" diameter (14.5 cm). It can open up to maybe 6 3/4" diameter. The rubber "gasket" is is about 1" wide inside of the semi-rigid portion.

If you’re thinking about it. Stop and just do it!!! We went from my kid acting like we where trying to murder her when it was hair washing time to it being a breeze. It used to be a struggle just to get her hair wet and now I am able to wash and condition her hair and she just sits there letting it happen. I could not recommend this product more. I saw a review talking about mold but it’s not that hard to dry it after use to prevent that.

As ridiculous as this looks, it actually works great. I was a bit hesitant and skeptical but bath time for my infant daughter was getting long and tedious. She has long beautiful hair but hates when I cradle her to wash her hair over the tub. Washing the front of her hair was impossible without getting soap and water in her ears, nose or mouth. Using this contraption actually cut bath time down, which is great during cold weather. My daughter also approves of using it.
Only complaint is that this is really tight so it’s not made for older toddlers. My daughter kept saying her head hurt but I think she meant tight. Hoping this would break in and get a little looser.

This product has been a life saver!! My son has autism and developed a strong fear of taking a shower & washing his hair. It was heartbreaking. He uses this on his own by holding the handle. Now it CAN leak a little on his face if he’s not holding it on correctly or putting his head back enough, but compared to other items on the market this has worked best for us! I’m so happy we found it.

We got this in January of 2018 and we still use it. Why review now? I was actually looking it up to recommend to a parent (And this is like maybe the eighth time I’ve recommended it to someone over the years) and saw a couple of bad reviews.
My son is on the spectrum and he cannot stand water on his face. This saved my sanity. It took a couple of trust runs for him to understand how it worked but hair washing has been amazing the last three years (once I get him IN the tub - but that is another issue)
Mold - we have seen NONE
We just rinse and leave on sink to dry. Once dry, I put it up on a shelf over the door. We do not leave in tub area because the house is 100 years old and we do have that typical mold in the shower grout battle that we fight.

This thing is awesome. My toddler would cry every night when we’d start washing her hair and no matter how careful we were to keep soapy water out of her face, it would get there. She’d get scared and look down, making things worse, it sucked. We tried another product that you had to strap to her head and we could rarely get her to wear it for long enough to rinse her hair, and on the rare occasion we could, it still dribbled water in her face. We have to after a week. THIS product is a great design. It has a strap but you don’t have to use it. The soft rubber that presses up against the forehead channels the water back so nothing is spilling into or in front of her face, so she’s totally comfortable. We just hold it against her head with one hand and pour water with the other. Great product!

I have always considered myself to be fairly skilled at washing my kids’ hair....until my 3rd child came along. She has ALWAYS screamed and thrashed when I tried to wash her hair, which made it impossible to do well. As a result, she learned to hate it more. Her fear and hatred of having any water in her eyes AND ears (I can deal with the eyes well enough if they sit still but not the ears with a regular cup) rubbed off on her older autistic brother. I tried the hats and visors but she would rip them off and a little water always seeped through or hit her ears. He also started crying during hair washing. I bought this device a few weeks ago and have done several bath times and each time keeps getting better. Now that they trust the device to keep the water out of their eyes and ears, they can sit still and not cry at all. This thing has saved my sanity. I’m so glad I found this in time for summer when they need daily baths.

My baby HATED bath time before we got this. He hated getting water in his face while rinsing the shampoo off him (wouldn't sit still enough for me to do it perfectly with a regular cup), and that caused him to start dreading baths and he'd scream the entire time and try to climb out of the tub.
My husband and I were skeptical that this product would actually work but it works FLAWLESSLY. He's 12 months old and I can easily place it on his head and hold it with one hand while pouring water with the other hand. No leaks! We've used it several times now and it's really helping to make bath time so much better.
Tip: The first couple of times we used it, I wore the visor myself while I was washing baby so he could get used to it and see that it was safe. Then I'd let him borrow my "hat" when it came time to rinse his hair.

Love this! Been using it with my daughter since she was around 8 months old. She's now 2. One tip that helps; After each bath the warm water warms the cap repeatedly so it can over time not fit as snug on the baby head allowing water through on there little eyes. But we had a little bucket we just snuggly fit it in after done using so it dries inside and is snug fitting for each use. Hope that's not confusing. Will attach picture.
