I set this up in my spare room with wood floors. I lay down puppy pads around it since I have boys and they may miss a little when they pee but they poop right on the pad Every time.

   We got this for the patio for our 9 week old Frenchie since he still has another month or so until he's done with his shots and able to go potty in the real outdoors with the big dogs! Didn't take any effort at all; put the puppy pad under the grass, told him to "potty" - gave him a treat when he did and it's been working ever since! I change the puppy pad daily and thoroughly clean it once per week. Since it's used outdoors we don't have an issue with the smell like some others might. Just bought another one to use inside his fenced off area in the kitchen when we aren't at home in an effort to curb chewing and destruction of the plain puppy pad lying on the floor. Only been using it for 2.5 weeks but love it! Oh, I purchased the medium which gives him enough room to sniff, turn around and squat! He doesn't prefer to poop on it however. Another tip - use the leash to keep them on the grass when you ask to "potty".

   Dogs use it. I wish they could come out with a fake grass which would better absorb the urine smells. This one washes easily and all, but still I can smell the urine from the dogs. If left in the sun, it does better, but with winter in our grips, one can't do that as much. Others have been worse. I love the size as we had a smaller one the dogs would miss. Our two dogs both use this at night and it is very good for that.

   I see a lot of reviews about the smell, let me make this abundantly clear: YOU HAVE TO WASH IT EVERY SINGLE DAY. I remove the solid waste as soon as she leaves it, but each morning you have to clean the liquid waste too. I clean the trays in my shower with scalding hot water and Dawn dish soap, now I can’t even tell it’s out there. For the pad, I don’t use soap. I run it under scalding hot water and scrub it with itself until the water runs clear. Total takes about 5-10 minutes but is worth it!

   I have a 19 yr old Chihuahua and live in an apartment style condo, he never liked going out on the snowy winters but now he seems to not like to go up and down the steps unless he feels like it. The grass areas and potty pads have been amazing. I am lucky enough to have a bathroom I wasn't using and now that is his room. We still try to go down on his good days but really he prefers these. When we visit other places with a yard he will go outside but he knows at home exactly where his bathroom is. I clean off the items each day and change the pads below. Once a week I soak the grass pads on a tub with lysol and give them a day to dry out (preferably in the sun if the weather is nice) I have spare grass pads that a rotate out each week while the others are being cleaned. No more messes in the house!

   I could see how this wouldn't work for every purpose by it is working perfectly for our purpose. We have a small, handicapped elderly dog who simply cannot handle going out in the cold anymore. At least not for more than the briefest of moments: After just a couple minutes outside he will flop over, immobile. I thought he was being a smidge dramatic but our vet said, "No no no, he will just lay down and die if you let him." !! So I searched and found this product. It is working perfectly. Our sweet little pup took right to it and now this is exclusively where he potties. He's visibly very happy with the arrangement. Very thankful for this product. (If you see a little blue peeking out in the picture that is because we are using puppy pad liners to make the clean up a little easier.)

   We have a tiny 3lb dog. He has to use this everyday all day. It’s too cold for him outside and the birds would scoop him up so this grass potty is in our garage. I trained him to use it and he does. Be prepared to thoroughly clean this at least twice a week or more. Constant use makes it smell horrible! I bought some bio treatment to spray on and it helps a lot. Keep in mind I pick up the poo every time and put the disposable pads to absorb urine and have to change those every 2 days. My husband cleans it thoroughly with cleaner and a deck brush at least once a week sometimes twice. I bought the medium and even tho he is very tiny dog I wish I would have gotten the biggest one to give him more room.

   We're temporarily in an apartment while our house is being built so our dogs are NOT used to walking on leashes, they're used to free roaming in the backyard. My husband is at work all day and our dogs are way too strong for me to walk on my own, especially coming from the third floor. It took a few days for my little one to learn he was allowed to go potty on the balcony using this. I took other reviewer's advice and placed used potty pads underneath the mat and put accidents on top so that they would understand that's where they go. I think it took 3 days for my little one to figure it out, unfortunately my bigger one is too polite to go on the balcony but this has been a life saver for a 5'1" female getting dragged around by the dogs.

   My dog is a little gal with a smaller bladder, so she can't hold it as long as my last larger dog. She also isn't great at letting me know when she needs to go out, so this is a great help. Your results may vary since the dog itself is an unpredictable variable, but I have been very happy with this pad. My pup will go on it in the mornings if she can't wait til we go on our walk, or use it if I am out all day. It is a good size for a dog that is probably 25 pounds or less (my dog is 15 pounds). It is a good size for an apartment living room, as you can keep it in a corner or by a doorway and it doesn't take up too much space. It would probably do well on a patio or balcony as well, but I keep mine inside since that is what my dog needs it for.
