I can't say anything about durability because I just got this opisometer. But I can say that it is very nicely designed and constructed. It is easy to understand and use and it accurately records distance when measured on a ruler. Hard to say about curved surfaces, but I have no reason to think that those will not be as accurate. One thing to note is that, as received, there is a transparent protective film on both sides that is not easy to lift with a fingernail. I used an exacto blade to lift just the edge to get started on pealing it off.
