   It's a bit of a pain to clean, there's multiple pieces and even with one cat, it gets pretty nasty after two weeks. But my cat drinks a lot more water than the water tank I had for him before and I don't have to clean it as often. I wish the fountain would remember that I turn the light off when I have to unplug it to clean it. I bought a second pump for when the original wears out; the manufacturer explicitly states that the included pump will work for two to three years.

   The fountain works great. My kitten loves it. I would STRONGLY suggest that you purchase a mat with a lip around it. My kitten paws at it and water spills on the floor. I have a mat coming. Caveat: my kitten is neurotic and takes liquid gabapentin and giving it to her by syringe was a nightmare. I decided to see what would happen if I put her dose in the fountain and it worked. No more scratches and fits of rage.

   I got this for my two cats because I was concerned, they were not getting enough water. They took to it immediately even with the lights on and using the fountain spout. After a few days I discovered I did not like the sound of water dripping. I removed the fountain spout which turns it into a bubbler that is much quieter. Even with two cats I can go about 3 days before I need to refill it.
