It drove me nuts how the older version would close even if I was still scraping off a plate and then I'd have a mess everywhere but with the new version, it can sense that you're still above the can and will keep itself open until you move away - no need to push the button to hold it open unless you step away. We have 2 of the older versions in different rooms and will be replacing all with this new version - we LOVE it.

I love it and my wife doesn't. She says it's too big for our kitchen, which makes no sense to me. Compared to the one we have it's the same width and height but about 3” deeper front to back. Our old one is 13 gal. and has to be emptied every other day. Plus, due to the small opening, there's always food smears all around the top rim. This new 21 gal. with its big opening wouldn't have that problem nearly as often. But, my wife doesn't see the sound logic and need for this sweet looking, larger can. So, you can guess who won this round. My purchase is being returned tomorrow. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it if your wife will let you have it.

This trash can works really well and is so large that it has really minimized the amount we have to take the trash out. I literally recommend it to everyone lol. I do buy the specific nine stars trash bags off amazon but I still don't have to buy them often. Very worth the money!!!
