   Although I'd say it would be difficult to make a truly universal support bracket, the item is strong, secure and best of all, it's engineered & assembled in USA. I have not checked, but I'd bet Home Depot's version is made in China.
   
   I'd recommend measuring your AC unit and then finding the point of balance where the bracket will be most supportive. I did this by holding both sides of the AC unit and setting the unit on a straight arm of a wooden chair and finding the appropriate middle-balance point. I measured this distance and positioned the AC support arm in my window accordingly. My Frigidaire has the heavy compressor component situated to the left side, so I mounted the bracket 3 inches to the left of what would be center.
   
   I recommend this item. You will most likely need to drill pilot holes for the 3 screws so you do not damage your wood. No one wants damaged woo

   It was mandatory to "properly" install brackets support for our air conditioner, our management company was charging us $150 for the installation. We decided to buy this and do it ourselves. The super inspected it and said it was properly installed, we were worried that they would say it's not approved or that I need a more expensive one but no.
   
   That being said, the installation was easy, it took two people to install it and I live in an 8th floor, so we did everything from the window. We did take a few extra steps to secure the air conditioner in place, but it does look safe and sturdy.
   
   Word of advice, remember that the air conditioner has to have a slight inclination. I installed mine straight and when it rained water was leaking trough the air conditioner. Fixing the problem was easy but do keep that in mind.

   I bought this for a new AC and it is very sturdy and was easy to install. I love that it didn't need to be screwed in on the bottom because that part is outside the window and inaccessible. The top part was easy to install and screw into the window track. I do have to take the brackets out in the winter to close the window, but it's not that time consuming to reinstall each year. Just be sure to save those parts if you have to store it. I just taped them on, put it under my bed, and it's ready for next year

   I got two of these for my 24,000 BTU AC that I bought from GE. The AC was 138 lbs, and these are rated at 160. But I still got two of these just to be safe and also because I think the two support look better from the outside view of the AC. They are very well made, easy to install and give you peace of mind both when installing the AC (supporting it before you've secured it) and also after the fact when knowing that the braces are taking some strain off the window sill itself. I'd highly recommend these.

Holds the weight of the AC just fine and does not damage the vinyl siding on my house! Has a small built in level to ensure you have it in the right position before putting the AC on it. Wish I had one of these a long time ago!!

   I almost did not purchase this based on the product reviews, but I gave it a shot anyway. Normally my husband installs the window air conditioners, but since I took part in installing a large window air conditioner, I wanted to make sure it was well supported. I have replacement windows and aluminum siding. It did just fine with the siding. It did require a small piece of 2X4 on top of it to get it to the right height for the window, but that was it! I am able to install this myself and feel confident that the large AC is supported.
