Thus far, it has held up to several severe storms, while supporting an 8,000 BTU AC unit (see other reviews). As the screws are large and heavy duty, I don't see them coming out on their own anytime soon (the window itself would have to fail first, I suspect). I usually tape screws to the mount when removed for the winter, to avoid losing them later. The mount comes with custom spacers as well, so tape the ones you used to the mount during storage as well.
I used it to support a 10000 BTU AC in an aluminum, horizontal sliding window opening.
Instructions may not always apply, such as with the way I used it, but a little common sense should get you there.
With my aluminum, sliding window I had to add a 4" long 2x4 block outside and just below the aluminum frame to have a place to screw it in.
I pre-drilled the block so it wouldn't split and anchored it to the house with 4ea deck screws.
Set the angle then placed two more deck screws under the brace foot.
Worked Great! Nice and secure.
I think most any DIY type person could easily make it work for most any window type.
