This one is firm and it hurts but in the best way, and you can control how much pressure you bear down onto it. It truly makes such a difference in muscle soreness and tightness.    I've been using this roller for over a year now. It's a solid piece of construction. I put most of my body weight on it on an almost daily basis and there's no sign of deformation whatsoever. I use it on a carpet, so I can't speak to how it would hold up on something rough, but the surface is textured, so while it's slip-resistant, it might get chewed up if you're using it on something like a dirty gym floor.
