I read some negative reviews before buying this but bought it anyway. I've done about 20 smoking projects on domestic pit smokers since buying this and it has been unfailing. Follow the instructions. Hold it very close to your wood charcoal lump until you see some glowing ember and then pull it back to about 10 inches to provide concentrated air flow and oxygen to spark the fire. The product works, hasn't failed me yet even after getting a little rain on it (not recommended) and also comes in about $50 cheaper than the alternatives.
