I'm one of those ppl who study the heck out of every online purchase. This is excellent width, length, and strength. Knee braces, leg braces = no for my dogs lack of rear end control. Operation for my old dog not a good idea, this is the best I could do for her. We have gotten very good at using this sling. At first my heavy retriever/chow or shepherd ? mix really shied from it; but, I have gotten smoother at getting it on and she has gotten far more accepting of it. I have gotten good at still cuing and leading her with her leash while supporting her back end only as needed. Lately, she has begun to lean on it herself once in a while. I am able to smoothly switch hands that hold leash & sling when we turn directions. Avoid using the sling to control and stay with the leash for that. I also do not hold up her rear end with the sling (otherwise she would not be exercising her back legs and would over-stress her front legs). I keep the slack in the sling and only provide support when her back end and legs begin to collapse. There has been a short learning curve as I take my old girl on her slow, not too long, daily walks. Hope this is helpful to others :)
