Definitely working well so far. Actually it works better than any other motion sensor trash can I ever saw. You don't need to do anything to shut it, it shuts after several seconds. The only problem may be hard to find trash bags of its size. I definitely found a couple for its size, 20-21 gallon. But compared to 13 gallon and 29 (?? forgot the size), it is not that common. So far, we are using another trash can too, and only use this one for recycles.

Never knew life would be so much better with an automatic trash can. We used to just not use a lid so we didn't have to touch it everytime but then that lets the stink out and everyone can see your garage when they come over to visit. Now we don't have to touch anything, just a wave of your hand and it's open for you. Now beware if your mother in law comes over and tries to change the trash bag, ensure that she doesn't throw the ring thing away. The ring enable you to “hide” the trash bag inside the can, but since we no longer have the ring, everyone just already knows we have a trash bad in it. Also, when changing the bag, be sure to place the top on a solid surface. Mom in law didn't do that and the lid fell from the counter, why would you even put it on the counter anyway, and now the lid to the compartment that hold the batteries had to be taped for it to stay on.
