It's simple to put together and sturdy--it holds both our 10 and 15 pound cats with no issues. It did come down once because one of the cats, having no concept of engineering and the consequences of his actions, chewed the suction cup off the window. I don't think it would ever come undone unless tampered with, but it might be good to keep it lower to the ground or keep an eye out if you have a crazy chewer like ours. Other than that, the seat and cords have absolutely held up to their abuses, and it makes them happy. We also love to see neighbors spotting and interacting with them from outside--it's a lot of fun!
