Plugging in and turning on defaulted to heat on and full speed. I turned it down initially but soon put it back on full speed once I got used to the sensation. I'm a size 8 in shoes and my feet fit perfectly. I did move my feet around a bit to massage different parts of my feet. The timer is 15 minutes long and it felt like 5 minutes! I could have quite happily sat for hours. The manual recommends no more than 30 minutes in case it causes mild pain which seems unlikely as the massage is heavenly! The Massager has a stand which is nice addition so you can sit back in your favourite chair while watching television.
