She's not too comfortable yet going up and down by herself so we got this gate just as a deterrent. She's old enough to know not to try to knock it over so it serves its purpose well for us. When she sees it up she knows she can't go down by herself. I also love that it's not bulky like a traditional baby gate. It's sleek and barely noticeable when its retracted. I would highly recommend!
